Tag - You’re it!

In the world of 24-hour news and continuous visual overload, it is occasionally nice to just sit back and contemplate — one’s life, one’s world, one’s navel. It’s amazing what you can learn when folks are willing to share those contemplative moments — from the random to the sublime, from the provocative to the banal. This morning my friend Alex Kjerulf, the Chief Happiness Officer, “tagged” me to share 8 random things about myself. At first I thought it was kind of nuts and the blogosphere’s version of a email chain letter. Plus, I don’t normally go about sharing random details about my life with the world. But then I thought, “what a great way to connect people and raise our collective consciousness”. Very Social Age. So I decided to play along.

The rules of tagging:

1) Post these rules before you give your facts.
2) List 8 random facts about yourself.
3) At the end of your post, choose (tag) 8 people and list their names (linking to them)
4) Leave them a comment on their blog letting them know they’ve been tagged!

8 Random Facts About Me:

1. For me, everyday is Saturday –an integrated daily balance between life, work, fun, family, fitness and doing my part to change the world.

2. Some people collect baseball cards. I collect people.

3. In my opinion, there’s nothing better than a stimulating conversation.

4. I believe that children hold the key to the future of humanity and that we are obligated to prepare them for that responsibility.

5. Seeing people suffer breaks my heart.

6. I like to make up words. My latest: skidlings, monovelist, polynovelist, totaltoting. (If you want to guess what any of them mean, leave a comment below)

7. I don’t like people who are mean to waiters.

8. I believe each one of us CAN make a difference.

I don’t know a lot of people in the blogger community (perhaps this exercise will change that) , so I’m only going to “tag” a few cool friends, and hopefully they won’t hate me.

  • Stephen Shapiro at who writes about Unconventional Thinking
  • Traci Fenton from WorldBlu who writes about Organizational Democracy
  • David Norris of OnRequest Images who writes OnBrand
  • Kevin Jones, partner at Good Capital, guest blogger on The Social Age and blogger at Xigi.net

If you’d like to create your own list of 8 random things about you, feel free to add them in the comments or contact me and I will post them for you!

  3. So 8 random things about me?! Let me think about this. Hmmmmmm. . .

    1. One of the most freeing things I’ve ever done in my life was going skydiving out in California for my 30th b-day. I said I’d never do it and I did it anyway. I cried my eyes out when I landed!

    2. I once ate the heads off a couple fried baby eels when I was studying abroad in Indonesia. I didn’t want to do it but in order to make good with the locals I did.

    3. Even thought my company is called WorldBlu, my favorite color is actually pink. ;-)

    4. I do a Vision Quest once a year on the beach.

    5. Even though I’ve dedicated my life to working for democracy in the workplace initially I thought democracy was just a boring political idea until I learned more!

    6. One of my biggest goals in life is to learn how cultivate the mindset of an observer.

    7. Most women don’t like to wear high heels but I totally dig it.

    8. In my next life I hope to be a rock star with a social cause.

    9. I can distort my tongue to look like “frog legs.” At least that’s what my sister and I called it when we were in elementary school. Next time you see me ask me to do it and I will!

    10. I love to paint abstract art, I’ve always wanted to learn how to sword fight, I think golf is totally Zen and therefore totally cool, and by this time next year I will have learned how to play “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” (and undoubtedly a cornucopia of other hits) on my new cello!

  4. skidling … that’s clever! Monovelist & polynovelist are relatively easy - an author who’s written one novel, vs. many (though I suspect you’ve elaborated on this simple def, even) … of totaltoting me have no clue. er, toting boxes of Total from place to place? Though that no fit, never knew ya 4 a Total fan :)

  5. Monovelist = a person who reads only one books at a time

Polynovelist = a person who has many books going at the same time

    (thanks GloB)

Totaltoting = the act of getting out of your car and attempting to carry all of your bags, groceries etc. into the house all at once instead of multiple trips. In general, a sign that totaltoting has been achieved is that the totaltoter has deep indents in their arms where the plastic bags have been hanging. PhonalTotaltoting is when you have all of the bags, groceries etc. precariously balanced on your limbs and your phone rings.

  6. Great post. I believe each one of us can make a difference too. In reverence to Ghandi I say, “Blog the Change You Want to See in The World” and this is definitely a blog that does that well!
